You get access to the full app - unlimited budgets, sync, collaboration, passkeys, and all current features - for as long as the service remains online. You also get most future feature additions at no extra charge.

The only exception: if we build a major new capability that represents a substantial amount of new development, we reserve the right to charge a small additional fee for lifetime holders. We commit to being transparent when this happens and to never requiring an additional purchase to keep using features you already have. Monthly subscribers always get everything included.

The limits - 5 budgets, 2 income sources, 30 expenses - are generous enough for a basic household budget to work. They exist to differentiate free accounts from paid plans, which unlock unlimited items, sync across devices, and partner collaboration.

Yes. Create a free account and run a real household budget with up to 5 envelopes, 2 income sources, and 30 expense line items. Many households with a simple budget will fit within those limits indefinitely.

When you're ready for sync, multi-device access, or partner collaboration, that's when upgrading to a paid plan becomes worthwhile.

Sync stops. Your data remains accessible on the device you last used, but will no longer sync to other devices. Your server-side data may be deleted after 1 year of inactivity following cancellation.

We recommend exporting a backup before cancelling (Settings → Data Backup → Export) so you always have a local copy regardless of subscription status.

We're committed to giving at least 90 days' notice before any shutdown, keeping data export working throughout that window, and releasing the entire source code as open source / public domain so the community can continue to self-host it.

Monthly subscribers won't be charged beyond the notice date and will receive a credit for any unused days. Lifetime license holders are not entitled to a refund - the fee was for access while the service ran - but will have the source code to self-host if they choose. Full details are in our Terms of Service.

Not at this time. The lifetime license covers one primary account, which can have one partner sub-account and unlimited workspace collaborators. A household of two people fully sharing a budget needs only one paid account - the owner creates a free partner sub-account for the other person directly in Settings.

Payments are processed by Lemon Squeezy, recently acquired by Stripe. We never see or store your card number. All payment data is handled by the processor under PCI-DSS compliance. Your Ridgeline Budget account and your payment are completely separate systems.

You can verify the payment processor's security certifications on their website. Your financial data inside the app is stored separately and encrypted independently of any payment information.

No refunds, but you can try the free tier first before paying.
